About WVFOIC
The West Virginia Freedom of Information Coalition (WVFOIC) is a non-partisan independent collective of engaged citizens who advocate for open government and equitable access to public information in West Virginia.
Our Mission
Section titled “Our Mission”We promote and enable a transparent government, and therefore an informed citizenry, by educating the public on information freedoms in the schoolhouse and in the public square, by advocating for sensible information freedoms and equitable information access laws at the statehouse, and by defending the public’s right to know in the courthouse.
Our Methods
Section titled “Our Methods”We work to promote and protect the public’s right to know by:
- Educating the public on information freedoms — from individual requestors to journalists, attorneys, and elected officials.
- Advocating for sensible information freedom and equitable access laws at the West Virginia Legislature.
- Defending the public’s right to know in circuit courts and before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.
